Can you tell us a bit about your business?
We are a local charity supporting unpaid carers by providing practical help and meaningful respite. Our services range from homebased support to weekly Young Carers clubs and specialist day centres for people living with dementia or with physical or learning disabilities.
What led you to consider a levy transfer?
I have employed quite a few Apprentices in my time as Day Centre Manager and one of them has gone on to become a permanent member of our team. The levy transfer is a cost-effective way for me to trial someone who shows an interest in working with people with disabilities. It allows me time to assess whether they have the right aptitude for our clients, while giving both sides the space to determine if the role is the right long-term fit.
How has the Essex Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Service helped your organisation?
As a local charity with limited funds, the levy transfer removes the worry of any additional training costs when taking on an apprentice. We currently have one Apprentice on Level 2, another on Level 3 and another young man about to start on either a Level 2 or 3. If we had been required to contribute towards the apprenticeship costs, we would only have been able to take on one apprentice, which would have significantly limited our recruitment.
Would you consider applying for another levy transfer in the future?
Yes. Definitely. To have three members of staff all working for me and studying at the same time is great. The levy transfer has made this possible.
Would you recommend the service to other businesses?
Most definitely. The Essex Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Service team have been excellent. Whenever I have a query or need additional support, their responses are always quick, helpful, and supportive.
