Step 1: Set Up an Apprenticeship Service Account

• Employers must have an Apprenticeship Service Account to receive levy transfer funds.
• If an account is not already set up, they can register through the UK Government’s apprenticeship service - Create an Apprenticeship Service account

Step 2: Apply for Levy Transfer Funding

• Employers submit a funding request through the [insert registration link].
• A member from the EALTS team will forward the request to a potential donor(s). The donor reviews the request and, if approved, sends a connection request via the Apprenticeship Service Account.

Step 3: Accept the Connection Request

• The receiving employer accepts the connection request in their Apprenticeship Service Account.

Step 4: Set Up Levy Transfer Cohort

• They then set up a levy transfer cohort, there is an option to send this to their training provider to request that they add the details of the apprentice(s).

• The Essex ALTS team can provide support with these steps.

Step 5: Funds Are Transferred Monthly

• Once the apprentice’s training details are added to the levy transfer cohort - either by the receiving employer or their training provider – the levy donor makes a final approval on their apprentice account. Funds are then transferred monthly to cover training and assessment costs.
• The donor commits to funding the apprenticeship for its full duration.
• Levy funds cover 100% of training and assessment costs up to the funding band maximum.

Step 1: Assess Available Levy Funds

• Employers paying the apprenticeship levy determine how much of their unused funds they wish to transfer (up to 50% of their annual levy).

Step 2: Identify Recipient Employer(s)

• Employers can select the types of businesses, charities, sectors, or apprenticeship programmes they want to support.

Step 3: Register to Pledge Levy Funds

• Levy employers can pledge funds through the registration form.
• You will be asked to confirm the amount you wish to pledge.
• Employers may specify criteria such as sector, location, or apprenticeship type.
• Please note, that as with any matching system, the more criteria you enter may reduce the number of matches, however, if you have a strong preference for how your funds are used, please specify this.

Step 4: Recipient Applies for Funding

• The receiving employer submits a funding request through Essex ALTS website.
• The donor reviews and approves the request, then sends a connection request via their Apprenticeship Service Account.
• The receiving employer accepts the connection request and sets up a levy transfer cohort on their Apprenticeship Service Account.

Step 5: Funds Are Transferred Monthly

• Once the apprentice’s training details are added to the levy transfer cohort - either by the receiving employer or their training provider – the levy donor makes a final approval on their apprentice account. Funds are then transferred monthly to cover training and assessment costs.
• The donor commits to funding the apprenticeship for its full duration.
• Levy funds cover 100% of training and assessment costs up to the funding band maximum.
